Is Music Haram or Halal? Introduction The permissibility of music has been a topic of debate among Muslims for centuries. Even today, both traditional and contemporary scholars continue to discuss it. It’s commonly known that the majority opinion among scholars deems music haram (impermissible). However, a minority of scholars take a different stance, regarding music as either makruh (discouraged) or even halal (permissible), depending on the context and content. Personally, I follow the minority opinion. Why? Because it makes more sense to me based on reason, context, and the broader ethical principles of Islam. Some may go so far as to accuse me of disbelief ( takfir ) for not following the majority view, but the Qur’an itself warns against blindly following the majority without critical thought: وَإِن تُطِعْ أَكْثَرَ مَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ يُضِلُّوكَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَخْرُصُونَ "And if you obey most of those upon the...
